Nicky Harlow is the author of two novels Meru (Castle of Dreams) and Russian Dolls (Insignia Press) and several novellas. Her short stories have been published in Mslexia and by Route, Leaf Books and Skrev Press among others.

Born in Widnes, Nicky grew up in Liverpool in a warm and characterful family. She studied Fine Art and worked as a painted finisher, a designer/prop maker for stores and museums, and a carer in an old people’s home, a job which she feels passionately about.

Her first daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of three, and her illness became the inspiration for Amelia, along with some of the larger-than-life characters from her Liverpool childhood.

Nicky is now working as a creative writing lecturer at the Open University. She lives in Hebden Bridge with her partner, daughter and baby girl.
